Stumped by sickle mower

I got a New Idea Model 30B sickle mower at an auction on Saturday. I dragged it home OK behind the truck and it cleared the road by about a foot. Today I get ambitious and start cleaning it but somehow I did something that affects the transport mode. That is, if I try to hook it up the back end, where the cutter bar is. stays on the ground. I did send away for a manual but it won't be here for a week or so. Somehow, I think its the round casting part on the left side that's getting to me...see in picture. I'd appreciate some info if someone can help. Thanks.

That mower has a clutch lift that needs the pto running to be able to lift it. Probably while cleaning you inadvertently pulled the lever with the rope attached to it and tripped it to the "down" position.

Good old mowers. I've mowed hundreds of acres with one like that.

There's a gadget in that lift box, I'll call it a "dog", that wears out and will aggravate you to madness. You'll pull the rope to drop the cutter bar, and as soon as it hits the ground, it will raise right back up. Over and over. . .

I hope that part is still available. It's an easy fix to replace it if it is available.

I have a lot of good memories of hot summer days mowing the old "soil bank" ground with the mate to that mower.
