How do you get the faces of the rocks to be smooth and consistent? I have zillions of rocks on my farm and I'd like to build a stone-faced pump house, but the rocks are really randomly sized and shaped.

you have to pick out rocks with a face on it for the front there is always some you cant use, and try to put them in the center or in the back of the wall if it is buried, Those stone all came from the site in Peapack gladstone nj when they dug for the house
