New Tractor....kinda....

A while back I made several posts on looking for a newer loader tractor.

We purchased a Deere 6400 this weekend. It has a 620 Deere loader, cab, 2WD, Rack and Pinion Rear axle, power quad trans, and about 4500 hrs. Used it in the feedlot sunday, really like it so far.

How new is something like that? How much horsepower? Is it Yanmar powered? And what is a rack and pinion rear axle, I understand rack and pinion steering, does it steer on both axles like a lawn tractor? Sorry about all the questions, but I'm curious.

A JD 6400 was built from 1992 to 1997. They where made in Mannheim Germany. About 85 PTO horse power. The rack and pinion axle just means that it has cast iron rear hubs. You loosen wedges and use a rack gear to change wheel spacing. This is the heavier and better rear wheels. The engine is a JD 276 ci or 4.5 liter.

These are real fine utility tractors. My best friend has one that just turned over 14,000 hours. Only had the drive shaft replaced and several batteries. The engine still runs great and starts quick. It has the 640 loader on it.
