I'm redoing the ignition system on my IH 3414 tractor/loader with its BC144 gas engine and need new spark plug wires. The coil is a new 12V with internal resistance, points, not electronic ignition. First, can I use the modern carbon core plug wires? Secondly, I've bought solid core wire, ends and boots to make up a solid core harness. The ends, however do not have a contact 'tooth' that punctures the insulation to contact the inner wire. Is the insulation suppose to be stripped back and the solid wire soldered to the ends, or would the modern wire work just as well and is already manufactured to the lengths I need?
