Hi i am looking a buying a John Deere D it is styled and I dont know the serial number yet. the engine doesn't turn how much is this tractor worth?? all the tin is in decent shape but i dont know how much i should pay for it. can anyone help thanks!

The styled "D" era was a LOOONNNNGGGG one (15 years or so) and it probably would be a good idea to get the serial number and figure out what year it is!

Bob- i thought i got the right serial number off the tractor but it is not even close, i tried looking for a tag that is riveted on but i couldn't find it. but what im really looking for is the price that i should pay for it?

Eric, Ds are now hidollar tractors, they are getting scarce. If you really want one,Just pay the asking price-they will not get any cheaper

First , how bad do you want this D . Then ask him what is the lowest price he would settle for. Remember his thinking will be on the high side. Then figure the repairs it would take to fix it so it will run. Also are you going to fix it or are you going to pay someone else to fix it up. Remember this is a gamble. Remember you
may be paying for more than your original cost for repairs.I know of a styled D ( in mid west)
bringing 4100 running. now What are you willing to pay for it. ggp

the tag is on the housing under the seat. i would say anything under $1200.00 is good but could be higher as its a J.D.and green and likly will be higher , but its your money, "you want you pay".

I"m in california, anything old is a collectible and overpriced, I purchased a decent running styled D for $2000.00 a couple years back and thaught it was a good deal. A running styled D just sold locally for $1400.00 on ebay. There is a guy in northern cal that has been advertising two non running styled D"s for years and has dropped them to $1400.00 for the pair, no takers. Consider what you might spend to get it running, $1500.00 for a set of pistons bearings gaskets ect, $500.00 per rear tire, it add"s up quick. Offer $500.00 and if thats not acceptable go from there. Some people believe they have a priceless treasure, and some just want to get rid of an old project they just cant finish. It boils down to how bad you want it , and what you are willing to pay. The D is an awesome tractor and I really enjoy mine, keep us posted and good luck....Tom
