How do i wire this regulator.

Hi all, making progress on the old MF 135. I'm ready to wire it up but have never wired a generator before. the regulator doesn't have the terminals I expected. Its a delco and from left to right it has three terminals: L , bat, F and one on the bottom with no markings. Which one goes to the armature? I was assuming the bottom went to a ground because it is mounted with a rubber isolator on the base so there is no way to ground otherwise. Or does it even need grounding????

Thanks for your help and God Bless

Heres hot to wire that 4 terminal Voltage Regulator::::::

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO the bottom one does NOT go to ground, its more likely the ARM terminal which wires to the ARM post on the Generator. See below

NOTE: YESSSSSSS the VR has to have a good solid electrical connection to frame/case/ground somewhere somehow for it to work. It could be via the mount screws/bolts or a jumper wire to the tractor frame or often the gennys case.

LOAD on VR feeds hot battery voltage up to the dash to power loads such as Lights and Ignition. often via it wiring to the BAT INPUT TERMINAL on light or ignition switches etc.

BAT on VR wires up to the Load (NOT battery/starter) side of the ammeter (if it has one). It has to evewntually get to the hot ungrounded battery post so it can charge it.

FLD on VR wires to the FLD post on the Generator

ARM on VR (often the one on bottom or side or all by itself on 4 terminal VR's) wires to the ARM post on the Generator

Be sure to Polarize the Generator prior to start up

Im NOT a MF guy so if I missed anything or messed hopefully other gents will add to this.

thanks John. I thought that maybe the bottom might be the armature but was afraid to try without getting the opinion of someone who knew more than me. I used to watch my Dad wire them but I was very young then and was only interested in the driving part not the repairing LOL.

Thanks for your help
