Have a N8 was under tractor this evening pullinga Hydraulic ram off the bucket and noticed that there is a small hole to the front of the oil drain plug. it has a purposefull wire attached but goes no place.. Any thoughts?

LOL that should be/have a cotter pin in it and that was Henry's fancy way of keeping the bell housing clear of oil and water and it needs to be there and open or you will have big big problems

In some cases but not all, like making hay. I made 500 round bales of first crop, that would come to just about 10000 small squares, sounds like hard work to me!

Ah but back then if you had kids those kids knew what a days work was and did not sit in front of a computer or TV all day long and they where not over weight like so many are today and they where not lazy like so many are

It's a drain hole for the bell housing. Lets Trans oil and motor oil and water out so the clutch doesn't get sticky. The wire is usually a cottor pin to keep the hole open.

Those kids are only at Mc-Ds because mom or dad said you have to get a job or at least that is most of them. Kids now days do not know for the most part what real work is

(quoted from post at 13:40:20 07/22/10) GOOD POINT!!!! The kids now days would rather work at mcdonalds than throw hay bales.

In her teens, daughter used to work at local barn, mucking stalls, feeding horses, lesson helper, etc. She's now an attorney making decent money. Few weeks back she was having a tough time (client stress, long hours, work piling on, etc) and when I asked how work was, her answer was "rather be stacking 200 bales of hay from the truck into the barn in 90 degree heat in July". That's rough. :(

Years ago kids would rather not throw hay bales, but they did anyway because their parents, the greatest generation, had taught them a good work ethic. Also, their parents told them to go out and work for their money instead of giving them a credit card. Jim

Hey Old, when i grew up you learnt how to work. Dad had simple teaching, throw bales, do chores or what ever that is how the family made it and just to remind you when needed he would place number 11 boot in ares it was never meant to be. Complete different world out there today.
