Pulling tips for a young gun.

Howdy everyone! Iv pulled for a few years now and have picked up the ropes pretty well but I was wondering if anyone could lend some more tips or helpful suggestions. I restored a 1949 John Deere A last summer and pulled it in our clubs 5500ibs class. Its a stock pull so no major mods like high altitude pistons or welding the draw bar. Just anything you can think of would be greatly appreciated. I also pull a '55 JD 60 in the class above the A. And I should mention Im only 21 but have grown up around 2 cylinder tractors.

By flipping over the draw bar and moving it as close to the tractor as possible or as the rules allow make for a better pull. But there are cases of welding the draw bar to the hitch making a single solid unit. I just take a standard SAE 5/8 washer and slide it up under the draw bar. Granted it doesnt gain much height but it does take out the "wiggle".

Have a good excuse made up incase you don't win, like sled is junk or track not built right or any excuse you can come up with to blame for your bad showing, the people who donate their time to put on the pull always like to here it.Don't ask me how I know.

yes weight distrubution is the main factor. I pull with an old 400 IHC diesel, took first place many times in 7500 and 7000# classes beat many newer and bigger tractors.
