Hi to all; Well, had not run the 830 since last fall, so to ck it out, I thought I'll run it in the field here first. If it quits, I won't be on the road. Wife drove our 70 Standard gas, neighbor had his 8n and one CA allis. I pulled our 32'' trailer with a 48 Gibson, 1953 40, and a 44 LA. A 5 mile ride at 88 above out. Went good, but the 8n had a frt tire went flat. We had the hay I had cut all baled, so we took a break. Hopefully next yr more tractors will show. Hope everybodys 4th is going good. Bobmn

When I was a kid I raked ACRES of hay with an 830 and a Farmhand wheel rake.

Beautiful looking tractor! As for "using a sledgehammer to crack a nut", I have seen far worse examples here. Not so long ago I saw a huge brand new 4 wheel drive MF tractor (( forget the model number , but a quick search on the internet told me it was around the 200 h.p. mark with a 2 basket hay tedder on the back. Now that did look daft.I also have seen a brand New NH tractor, 4 wheel drive , 100+ h.p. with a set of chain harrows about 12 foot wide, ( ideal for a Grey Fergie! ) raking a pasture. Not only did it look just a bit silly, but I also thought it was hardly a good idea to run in a new tractor doing that , tootling about just above tick over with hardly any load on the back.

Roy, Wow,200hp is really over kill!! I know a fellow that had 4 old 7520 JD's and they run single tires on. all his kids run these....as in raking hay..well they did pull TWO rakes! Bob; Did the 830 have power steering? even with that on smaller fields, kinda hard to turn sharp!! Janicholson: chains? fwd? you know, with the rain, I was stuck once and had to stay away from parts of some fields! I guess I could fire up the 706 MM and REALLY make some ruts!!! Thanks guys Bobmn

If you don't mind me asking, what make/model rake is that in the first picture? It looks exactly like mine. I picked it up several years at an auction for $35. As far as I can tell, it was made by that old firm of Rust&Corrosion,LLC. I sure would like to know who really made it.

Thanks.

Christopher

Looks like he has weights on the rear wheels, so he should be okay there. I don't see any front weights though.

Love the sound of those big diesels.

I hope he adjusted the rake to not drag the ground much. Could lose a clutch like that!

I bounced around on a B Farmall with a rake just like that for years. I will bet he didn't spend as much time airborn as I did.

Christopher; Hi; ah yes, I know that R&C firm also!! Boy that's a deal!! I had to pay twice that! I was told that the rake is a Farmall.....maybe # 35? not sure, maybe some can tell us. I normally pull 2 rakes, a JD on the hitch, and I built a hitch on the back of that rake, to hook this rake to. less trips. I do like the ride of the bigger tractors, more room to stand...etc. I have some Fords, SC, Ollie S55..and all work good, but are tough on the back!!.........Tom, Yes, the big twins really sound good, and I do have the stock muffler with the tall pipe, which is nice. Thanks guys, Bobmn
