We are having a problem with the plant LANTANA,If I spelled it right.Roots are like oak,and spreads very fast.Don"twant to kill desireable plants, what would you do???

I've used cardboard as a shield when spraying 2,4D with a hand sprayer. Or use a paint brush to apply to only the undesirables.

I'm assuming of course this is in a garden situation.

Where are you located?

In Wisconsin Lantana is sold as an annual in flower pot arrangements.

I suppose it could be invasive in warmer climates.

This is in northern texas, and LANTANA develops a very hard root and will crowd out other decoritive plants and is very hard to kill.Any other advice will also be appreciated,

An old trick taught to me by an old strawberry grower. Put a good rubber glove on and then a cotton one on top. Then you just put your chemicial mix in a small bucket. Wet your glove and touch the bad plants leaving the ones wanted alone.
Lantana is killed with a 2,4-d base weed killer.

Not familiar with that plant or its growth habit, but for blackberries, if you cut the cane and dip the cut end in a small jar of Roundup, it will kill the whole plant, roots and all. I have painted the fresh-cut stumps of various woody plants with mixture of Roundup and diesel, and have yet to have one send up new shoots.
