He is sitting at my feet waiting to head out to do chores.
I gave a him a good bath with some shampoo yesterday morning. He still was pretty stinky afterwards so I left him here to dry and air out. I didnt think I could handle that in the tractor all day! I picked him up when I did chores last night and he was much much better. A hint of skunk but tolerable and he isnt CONTAGIUOUS any more. The pickup we are hauling seed beans with still smelled at 11:30 last night so I left the windows down all night again hoping it airs out.
Nick is going to plant beans today while I go spray corn. With a little luck we will finish planting beans this afternoon and have most of the corn sprayed.
Hope everybody has a great holiday weekend. If we finish planting today we will have something to celebrate on monday. If not, our work will continue.

Nothihg works well............except.
1 quart 3 percent hydrogen peroxide
1/4 cup baking soda (sodium bicarbonate)
1 teaspoon liquid soap or dish detergent
Mix these together and bathe ("shampoo" in or rub down) the spray victim thoroughly.
Be sure to use this mixture immediately after it is created, as it is unstable.
Rinse with tap water afterward, and repeat if necessary.
For spray in the eyes, flush with water as soon as possible.

LOL

One of ours got it last fall. Just when it seemed all the stink was gone she'd get wet and back it came! We tried everything.........well except for that concoction mentioned above. Poor little girl, she didn't know why nobody wanted to be near her. She was only trying to herd the damn skunk but apparently the skunk was having none of that!

In the future try some waterless hand cleaner (GoJo or something like that), it really works, most of the time the very first time you use it.

Skunk spray is a oil of sorts, the waterless hand cleaner breaks it down and gets rid of it.

We had a Cocker Spaniel that got skunked 4 times during her life time. The first time we used all the normal stuff, tomato juice, fancy shampoos etc, it all worked a bit but you could still smell it. We where at the HW store and someone said try the waterless hand cleaner, I'll never use anything but now. Their hair looks a little funny for a few days, that's about it.

My wife has a dog grooming shop. Probably gets 30 to 40 skunked dogs a year. I helped her with one last week. Baking soda, peroxide and Dawn dish soap. Dawn works very well, it is a degreaser, breaks down the oil that the skunk shoots out of his gland. First the mixture, then several wash / rinse cycles with Dawn. Really work it into the fur. And for a finale, she uses a doggie perfume.
