no fire after tune-up

I have replaced the plugs, wires, distributor cap, rotor button, points, condinsor, and coil on my J.D.1020 and now I can"t get fire to the plugs. I have the points gapped at .020 and the plugs gapped at .040.
Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks!

I guess you followed our shop motto "If it ain't broke, we'll fix it 'til it is!"

First off, connect a 12 Volt test light between the primary terminal on the distributor and ground. Turn on the ignition switch, crank the engine and watch the test light.

Post back with the results.

(Light flashes = normal.)

(Light on steady = points never close or have a non-conductive coating on them.)

(Light NEVER on = no power to coil, bad coil, points never open or there's a short in the distributor's primary terminal-to-points area.)

Did you measure the gap at the points while on the high point of the distrubutor cam or flat spot?

I did set the gap on the high lobes, I ran the light test and the light never came on, the condinsor wire was not shielded from ground, that little plastic or hard rubber boot whatever it is, is shot, so I made my own out of a piece of plastic that the points came in. It worked and my old tractor is running again, but I'm going to see if the guys at Deere Country sell those boots come Monday. Thanks for your help guys.
