I got an e-mail supposedly from family friend saying he needs my help. He is in England and has lost his wallet with all his money and ids
Message said i need $ 2800 to pay hotel bills and get back home send money through Western Union.
I'm thinking if Gary needs my help it has to be something with Lions club, but why wouldn't Gary call me?
I called him and said when did you go to England?
I talked to you sat and thought you were at work.
He said yea i know my wife called and she told me this. she called Hotmail and told them. It is thought anyone that Gary has e-mailed got this message.

The ba$tards almost got my uncle with that one, said they were his grandson and he was on the Canadian side of Niagra Falls and he needed 5 grand. Called the grandson and he was at work in NW Wisconsin, but they are older and almost fell for it. Terrible what people will do to try and $crew you out of money. Public executions need to start again. Every saturday in the public square.

Seems like every one has a angle if they can set the hook-sorta like bottom fishing.

My sister-in-laws mother got a phone call; when she answered it the caller said "Grandma???". Then she said " (grandsons name), is that you?".
He proceeded to tell her that he was stuck in Niagara Falls and needed money for bail and such...
She actually went to the bank to get the money and thank goodness one of the tellers found out what was going on and stopped her. She practically went crazy because she had been fed such a believable story that she insisted that here grandson needed help.
Such a simple con, but effective and scary all the same.

I could see my Mom getting caught up in something like that...Just emailed everyone I know we are doing fine and will call if we need anything. If they get an email, they are to call us before doing anything.

Thanks for the warning!

Dave

My wife just got a snail mail saying she won $65,000 from Readers Digest. It included a perfectly good looking check for over $3,000 to cover fees and such. She is supposed to cash it and send them the money. First snail mail scam we have gotten so far.

I got one yesterday. Telling me my wife was sitting on the side of the road and needed me to send her money for a tow truck and repairs. Funny how they knew how much the repairs were going to be. Before they had even looked at the car. Plus the fact that my wife passed away in Dec 04.

Must be 10 years or more ago, I saw my Mother in Law answer the phone, then ask me to help her find her credit card. I said that unless she initiated the call, she should never give that out! I had to tell her at least 3 times...later she told me the person on the other end was yelling at her...! I told her it was a scam-and of course they were angry-it did not work! I truly think she would have fallen for it if I had not been there! Greg
