1949 -1954 cadilac motor parts

Had the whole thing about 10 years ago. In 53 they had a fire and cars got dynaflow buick trans. That was a blast no shifting discernable. Gave mine to charity and they sold it for 7 grand. It did need all chrome work. If I run into something I will post. Dave

I had a 1949 Caddy series 62 4 door sedan. The pistons are unique to 49 only. The heads from 49 through 56 will work as when I had to have work done on the valves they had to put in new valve seats and the only ones that would work were from a 1956 model so that is the heads that were on the one I had. It was orignally sold new on July 7, 1949 at St. Marys, Ohio. There never was an Olds engine of the size that were used in the Caddys at that time, 20 some years later possibly. Now for some information the 48-49 Caddy and 49 Buick roadmaster and 48 Olds 98 were stamped on the same press for the body and the Olds engine that was used in that body was a flat head straight 8, 257.1 cu" and the Buick engine was an overhead valve straight 8, 320.2 cu". The V8 Olds of that era was a 303.7" engine. I do have the old shop manuals for these cars. In 1953 the left cylinder head was priced at $47.25 for 49-51, 52-53 and all right heads were $49.63. The engine was a V8 3 13/16" X 3 5/8" at 7.5 compression ratio for 1949 - 52 and for 53 it was up to 8.25. Bare engine HP was rated @ 160, with accesories @ 141 and taxable HP was 46.5 and that would compair to the way tractors were rated.

send Email I may be able to help with the cad. I have complet engine except the air cleaner & exaust manifold, set up for a manual trans
