hey jdemaris

I've heard lots of rumours, but never actually seen one. Bobcats, fisher, martens, moose, black bear, coyote, - all yes. My neighbor works for the NYS environmental conservation departent and had investigated many suspected cougar sightings. He claims they were all bogus (unless he's lying and keeping secrets).

120 miles from me in the Adirondack Park, a few cougar sightings have been verified. But, the argument has been that they are probably escaped pets and not wild cats. Who knows? Same goes for wolves, but with them - one theory is that they ARE wild and wandered over here from Canada.

NMR in Ontario officially claim there there exists no problem with or they don't even exist. With cougar, wolf, bear or coyote in Ontario.
There was an article in the local paper this week from a MNR bioligist from Toronto. Who claimed there has been no increase in the coyote population in the past century. And coyotes pose no threat.
There has been a rash of reported and verified instances in Canada. Of cougars stalking and grabbing children and adults. An olympic biathalon in training and a newly graduated physician killed by bears.
A person was killed by coyoyes last month and too many accounts to list of coyotes grabbing pets from back yards and even pets off leashes during walks.
One of my bother's fellow truck drivers working for this company. Was attacked and bitten on the forearm by a coyote.
They figure the coyote was defending a heap of dead chickens beside the barn. While the driver was a feed blower hose to a bin.

Kind of off topic but are you down near Olean, NY. Don't have to tell me where you are exactly but I was just curious if there are decent equipment auctions over that way. Have you been to Lamb and Webster's recent sales? Looking for a couple older JD pieces for parts.

Nope. I'm in central NY. Otsego County 15 miles from Cooperstown. MacFaddens has a huge tractor salvage yard 20 miles from me and also has huge antique tractor auctions. At his yard and all over central and western NY.

Next one is March 27.

I suspect your coyotes are bigger then the ones we have. I know there are several distinctly different groups of coyote types in North America.
We have coyotes all over the place and they rarely bother anthing or anyone of size. They are the Adirondack strain and tend to be small and non-agressive. They also tend to be very shy. I've found their tracks many times where they walked up to my barns and peeked inside - but didn't dare go in. That even though there were baby goats and chickens inside.

My neighbor has radio collars on many the the NYS Dept. of Conservation has been observing their patterns of behavior. I'm sure they kill a weak deer, or a housecat now and then - but many more get blamed for things there were probably done by domestic dogs.

March 27th on lamb and websters spring auction.Google it for the equipment listing.Bogus mountian lion report in Chaffee/Sardinia NY.

My wife and I are originally from Allegany but now live about 15 miles west of Binghamton. Moved here in 1967.

Apparently our coyotes are cross breed with the Eastern Red Wolf.
Makes them bigger, smarter, more aggressive and stronger.
