Maybe somebody who has done this can give me the steps. Drive axle seems a tad loose and dope is coming into the brakes. Discovered during brake shoe replacement. I did this in the past but only with pig type(about 30 years ago) Any and all advice very much appreciated. Forget too much and remember too little.
CRS I guess. Thanks a lot

if its just a standard 10 bolt gm rear diff, pull the inspection cover off the rear center and drain the oil. there will be a cast housing in the center of the rear end with a set of spider gears. the shaft the spider gears rotate on needs to come out first. there is a small bolt that goes crossways thru the casting and thru the small shaft. remove the bolt, slide the shaft out. then walk the ring gear around to remove the spider gears. once out, push the rear axle inward to the center of the housing, it should slide in about 1/2 inch or so and you will see a keeper on the inside of the axle shaft in the pumpkin. take the keeper off and the axle will slide right out.

Thanks Rick and Glenn, really appreciate your help. Gotta keep trying before I become totally useless. 66 and slippin' Dave
