Why is it that a 30 minute project takes all day

Well I was going to install a starter solenoid on my WD45 this morning. Fired up the tractor I had it rigged so you took the battery cable and touched the start stud to fire it up. Well fired it up and drove to the shop. When I did I noticed the home made tool box was falling off, so since I had one laying around I'd but it on, then noticed the fender looked pretty bad so yep I had a better one laying around. Then back to that solenoid and well the battery box was total junk so go take the one off the parts WD and fix it. Still don't have the solenoid on. Oh well it was brake time again so here in a little maybe I'll get done

You and I have talked about this if you remember.
This is what my little wife would tell both of us, OK
She would say boy YOUR GOT UP AND GO HAS GOT UP AND WENT SO WHAT EVER YOU DO IS TIME WELL SPENT. It don’t matter what we get done today we still have to marrow.

That's just the way life works.

I went out to spread manure Sunday. Pulled the tractor and spreader out of the barn, then figured since it was out of the way, its a good time to get the little Allmand backhoe out, as neighbor wanted to borrow it to get two little stumps out. Started it up, took it by the shop and checked fluids and fuel, and found a bolt and nut to re-secure the throttle mounting plate. Tightened up some more bolts and screws while I was at it. Then took it to the neighbors- he didn't seem to be around, so decided to just grub out the stumps myself. Just as I was finishing, he comes out with a plate of eggs, sausage and toast- we went in and had breakfast (my second of the day)- then went home, wife informed me that we were meeting the kids and grandkids at the restaurant in town. And so on.

Manure is still waiting.

Your 30 minute project took all day. My 15 minute one is 2 days and counting.

Whenever I took my wife to the mall. She would say I will just be a minute. So I knew to take along my pillow and something to read. I also have CRS.

I had to replace a toilet shut off valve Saturday morning at the farm, took 2 hrs. because the plumber used a compression tee and didn't extend the pipe out of the wall by one more inch, when I tightened up on the valve the compression fitting behind the valve turned causing a drip. The town where my farm is located has one real hardware store(the Walmart doesn't count) and two parts stores that carry tractor parts, they all close at noon on Saturdays. If you need a plumbing part or a tractor/impement part on a Saturday afternoon you are screwed. I will be spending my spring break time fixing that problemplus replacing the kitchen sink/faucet. Looks like a fun week.

OLD, most all of my 15 minute plus jobs are the longest jobs I've had in all of my 40 years at industrial maintenance.

Well, how about 2 days? Bought brake parts and rotors for my car's rear brakes. Also needed to replace the backing plates/sheilds inboard of brakes. Well, guess what, shields won't fit over hubs. Have to pull axles to install them. So I have to disassemble differential... and reassmble same aftreward. Putting new gear lube is not a simple task either. Then there were the clips that hold the ebrakes in, that got damaged when I pulled the rotors. Fortunately the auto parts store was open for a couple hour window on Sunday and had e-brake hardware kit in stock.... Two days to do what should have been a simple, couple hour project! Been there - done that. Got a greasy coveralls to prove it, and grease stained hands too.

Never saw a 30 min project acually take 30 min. I figure "30 min job" to take a full day. No dissapointments that way.

That is the way with every job. Atleast you got something accomplised.
