I am looking at a 1950 Ford 8n with a Wagner Loader. Everything seems to be ok, but the laoder seems a little weak. Can anyone tell me what the lifting capacity of the Wagner loaders was. I found a manual for one that went on a farmall, and it was rated at 400 lbs.

There is not a good answer to your question Sam,depends on what model loader you are talking.Wagner made at least 6 0r 8 or more(late 40s-Early 60s) different models for Fords and others of that type trators.1000#to 4000# Capacity,so you need a model number or a really good description of it.

also it depends on where the loader is getting its hydraulic pressure from, if its using the test port on the factory hydraulic pump in the belly, the loader will be very slow and i mean slow! gpm's isnt much, front crankshaft pump is much better, look over the tracror's front end very carefully, most of the time if the loaders been on the tractor for years the front end will need rebuilding, there a pretty light duty front end for loader use

I have always believed that it is best to consider the capacity of the tractors front end and not the ability of the loader. After you consider the weight of the loader on the front end of the tractor you would be left with a material weight capacity of about 400 lbs. 600 lbs would be about max in my book. Can they lift more? Sure. Should they? Probably not.

I can not say the real number but I can compare a bit. I had one Dear born loader on an 8N that would lift the rear end of my 16 foot car hauling trailer so I could fix/change the tires. That was with it hooked up to the truck by the way. How heavy that is I do not know. Also one other one we have which is also a dear born was used at a church when they where building it, ya denoted so they could build the church it lifted beams that where around 900lbs each. They did have to have 4 or 5 guys standing the a carry all to keep the rear tires on the ground so lift up front also depnds on weight on the 3 point to some point and then can you steer it that is another tory in its self

It sounds like it should lift more, regardless of whether the tractor could handle it or not. I appreciate you guys taking the time to respond.

Wagner companies has a website with PDF files posted, they are manuals for the loaders they used to manufacture, they have stopped manufacturing loaders, but have posted these for people that still have the equipment.

Some of their later loaders were surprisingly strong, the one on my 850 may not be fast but it will lift a heavy load, probably more than the front end capacity of the tractor and it has 2 way cylinders, loader arms and bucket, with a front mount pump.

Earlier models I don't know much about, but those manuals should help, do a search on the net for Wagner Companies, you'll find it.
