OT How to trap rabbits?

Anyone had luck trapping rabbits? Having a dog is not an option, don't have the time to sit around with a gun. I have a fairly large live trap that I have never used yet. Advice appreciated. Leo

Old folks used a home-made wooden trap called a rabbit gum; I'm sure you can google one up. They worked and were often the difference between having meat on the table and going hungry in the reconstruction South.

When I was a little boy my daddy said to sprinkle salt on their tail and they would not run. Didn't realize that if you got close enough to put salt on their tail you would be close enough to catch one. DH

The rabbit "gums" were so called because they were often made from a small hollow section of a black gum or other gum tree. It looked more natural. If you already have a live trap there is no need to build a trap. Oil the trigger mechanism and set it as hair trigger as possible, bait it with apples or carrots.
I remember Daddy making a gum from a hollow tree section. I also remembe how good the fried rabbit tasted. When I was teaching school I offered a big extra credit for those who would make a model of a rabbit gum and several did.

Googling rabbit gum (which I had never heard of) gives 2,850,000 hits, believe it or not.

Seems like you get zillions of hits for ANYTHING you google. I've heard of a hobby where you enter combinations of two words, with the goal of getting exactly one hit. Pretty difficult to do, I've heard. There's a name for it.

Ain't nothin' wrong with cats. Just ask anybody whose hangin' around behind the kitchen at your local Chinese restaurant, waitin' for the owner to come out with his check.
