OT Hoop Building

Has anyone ever taken a hoop building down and moved it? I was told about one for sale; supposed to be 40X120 with open sides. It was offered to me for $3000 and since then he has been offered $3500, but I get first call since it was offered to me first. I haven't seen it yet, will probably go Sunday afternoon and look at it. Not sure on the age, somewhere between 2 and 8 years old. How bad a job is it to take one of these down and put it back up? I'll take some pictures when I go look at it. A friend at work is interested in 1/2 of the building if I buy it, assuming that the cover is not all one piece. Any thoughts? Chris

Take a lot of pictures and number parts if you can as you go. It can't be to hard, we took down a 24x36 pole barn and moved it a mile and rebuilt it. I would think a tarp that big would be at least two pieces.

i took down and moved and re assembled a 20x80 hoop style green house witch sounds like similar to what your talking only smaller. disasembled loaded and trucked completely on my own in 2 days. like a big mecano set. had hand when put it back up. quite simple if you remember (pics) where all the pieses go. sound like decent price.

good luck. rocko

I am going to bet that cover is one piece of fabric. They are very easy to construct/destruct. Just make sure there is NO WIND when taking the cover off or putting it on. Don't ask how I know. Hopefully the guy still has his install instructions for you to use. 4-wheelers and pickups work very well to pull the cover over when erecting, just need a slow and steady pull.

I put up a 40' x 64' hoop barn in 2004. I love it. I would recommend that you rent a man-lift to take it down and erect it. Once you get the fabric roof off, you start on end by disassembling the braces and laying the hoops down one by one. When you get to the last two hoops standing, tie the last one off with a couple of ropes. Lay down one and then the other. Disassemble the hoops on the ground and you're ready to move. Use caution when you pull the fabric over the hoops. If you use pickups or tractors, you can't feel if you're snagged on something. We pulled my 64' fabric over the hoops with ropes and 6 guys. Good luck!

I have helped put up 3 hoop barns. Should be easy enough to take down too. You will need 4-5 strong guys helping you and absolutely no wind when you remove the tarp. Hopefully at least one has worked on either erecting or taking down one before.
Bear in mind that the life expectaincy of the tarp is 10-12 years. We replaced one that was getting old, but got ripped up in a wind, $5200 and that was 2 years ago.
