Asked a question awhile ago about wheel weights vs liquid ballast. I recieved several ideas, went to tire shop yesterday bought a tire and had both tires filled with calcium.WOW what a difference I can move in snow!! The guy there gave me a option on liquid calcium or windshield washer. Didn't know the do both. But anyway Thanks for all you help Greatly appreciated. Mike

We can probably agree that many times a tractor will require extra weight as ballast.
Most of us agree there are "ideal" kinds of ballast.
Then there are several different opinions on what is a practical working compromise for the "best" ballast for the application.

I didn't mention that this tractor had a front loader, and I could take it out on flat ground with 1 inch of snow and it would just sit there with both tires spinning.Talk about aggravating!

Ford 2000 Don't know the weight but they put 60 gal of calcium in. I've thought about chains also. Whats weird the Ford 900 tricycle has a rear blade and you can't get her to spin a tire no matter what. she just goes. Mike

Haven't you heard about the evils of CaCl? Even as we speak, your tractor is rusting down. (tongue firmly in cheek)

If you're no where near animals, including pets, the antifreeze will work, but it's poison,so even a little leak will be deadly to a dog or cat. I don't know how widely available it is,but here in Michigan, beet juice is getting to be the thing. Non corrosive, won't freeze. Being sold under the brand name Rim Guard.

Well as per the NAA manual 32 gal. of CACL mix adds 440lbbs to a tire so you just added almost 880 lbs to your tractor so yep that will be a boast in traction. As for your 901 series are you sure it doesn't have fluid in the tires?? Plus even if it doesn't the center of gravity on the taller row crop tractor has to do with traction. But since you did go with the CACL be sure you keep an eye on those tires and if you get a leak get it fixed fast and wash the rim when getting it fixed of you will sooner or later be buying new rims

Ballast or not. Without tire chains on ice or snow. The tractor isn't going anywhere.
It's a 2WD loader tractor? Is there any ballast on the tractor at the moment?

The ills of chloride in tires is exaggerated. We still have the original rims on our H tractor. Yes they are the originals as my grandfather bought it new in 53 and dad still uses it. Old is right though you have to fix the leaks right away and wash that rim clean and then dry it before remounting the tire. Also wash the tire out inside and the tube if reused. We load all our tires with chloride.
