Non solder pipe fittings???

Hey folks,
Any experience with these things? I ran new water lines and installed radiant heating about 10 years ago. Need to make a couple changes and additions with some of the places being a little tight (I's not so slim as I was 10 years ago  )I keep seeing these sharktooth (sharkbite?) fittings that are supposed to be the savior of the plumbing world. Sure would make my life a lot easier if I could just cut/clean the old pipe and plug these in. They will be in a wall afterwards. Think they are worth anything?

use them at work where the pipes are exposed, havent used them enough to trust them buried in a wall somewhere.None of the ones in service have leaked in the two years we have been using them.Really easy to use. bill m.

I have them in a number of places under my mobile home. Had a few places where rats got hungry and chewed holes in the gray pipe they used in this one. They slip on easy and hold about like a shark does and so far as I know there has been no new leaks. One thing that really did help as for no new leaks is the cats that like to sleep under the house

those sharkbite fittings are nice but a little pricey. ive been selling them at work for about 4 yrs and everybody likes them. only had 2 come back defective. they can be removed and reused.

I see that they are pricey.. But, compared to the time savings and stress of my fat a$$ rolling around in corners trying to cut, drain, clean, solder, test, and prolly repeating the previous steps at least once, I think they may be worth it..... Only talking about 10-12 half inch fittings max.

Guess I'll try them then.

id have to agree with bill mart. ive used them with copper, pex and poly b but always where accessable, never had any problems or call back so far, couple of years, but being old school have never yet trusted to close them into a wall, youd have to make that call although i think you might be safe

my son and I replumed his hole house about 5 yeas ago, all in plastic and it is quick and easy and a lot cheaper than the other, But if you are in the city they may have there own code, the other thing is you have to make all your cutt's right the first time because once you snap they in it all over. But as tony the tigger would say:
IT IS GRRRRRRRRREAT.
GOOD LUCK;

I put 120 psi air pressure on a Sharkbite fitting on copper pipe and it never leaked. You need to clean the copper pipe until shiny and use a tube cutter to make the cuts. Hal

I have used them several times, in ceilings at work and walls, have not had a problem, First one I ever used was about 3 or 4 years ago and it has never leaked.

I guess that it depends on your local building code. Years ago I sold two houses at about the same time. One in Indiana where I plumbed the whole thing with copper, sweating all of the joints. No problem with inspection when selling it. The other I sold in Illinois where apparently the local code didn't go for pressure couplings. I sweated most of it, but were a couple of places where because of the fit, and not being as slim as I used to be as well, I used pressure couplings which I've done before, never ever had a problem leaking. This time though was different. When the inspector saw that, he told me they had to go. I was surprised to hear that, but he wasn't going to pass it until they went away. I guess where there's a will, there's a way, because I sweated in new pieces that as I recall almost required me standing on my head and hanging like a bat to get to, because again, I was to chubby to get into from the side. Bottom line, I guess that local building code might dictate, especially if you ever go to sell.

Good luck.

Bin using them for a few years. Had a few leaks but removed and reinstalled with no problem.
Best thing to do is remove the little plastic insert before using them.
Expensive I guess but beats burning down the house.
Make sure the ends are cut straight.
You check out there web site?
Wish I could remember how to spell it but (choose)
