Lights bars

Anyone have experience on what brand/type of light bar would work well for a pull type sprayer marker? I am looking for an economical light bar vs. a foam marker.

Trimble EZ Guide 250 or 500 would be your best choices. The 250 is I believe around $1500-1800 with the better antenna. The 500 would even be able to control the sprayer with a few added options but that means more money and you said cheap.

I am using a Trimble E-Z Guide Plus. I like it, but they take some getting use to. It would be good to practice with it in your pick-up or
ATV before trying to spray with it. They are very flexible on configuration and can be set up to do many things depending on your needs. I had to read the users manual several times just to be aware of all it"s capabilities.

They will sometimes loose satellite signal when you approach tree lined field boundaries. Just go ahead and guesstimate your turn and the signal will return as you drive away from the trees. You will need to set it up for some spray overlap, at least 6 inches, maybe more while you get used to it.

Flat fields are best but rolling fields are do-able. Reason, the antenna is usually mounted to the top of the tractor cab and as the tractor leans from side to side will put you off-line. As you use it you will learn how to adjust your steering to compensate.

I got mine used and would think used ones would be pretty easy to find because they are becoming "outdated" to many farmers who now have gone to autosteering units.

I use mine to spread dry fert., no-till drill, plant corn, you can even find the acerage of any field by driving the outer edge. I think you are making a good decision in getting a light bar as it will be used for much more than spraying.

Oh, they are really nice at night which may be a plus for spraying at dusk as the wind lies for the evening.

I had a ez guide + till this summer when it cacked on me. Replaced it with a 250 and have been pretty happy with both. The ez pluses should be cheap since the 250 pretty much filled that niche of their market.

Bear in mind my 250 needs to go back to the shop when I get home. Sometime between beans and corn something went askew in it and it has trouble locking on now. I guess I will find out how good the guarantee is when I get home.

Trimble is a good option if you want to add a steering device. I have EZ Steer also. nice to just move the motor from vehicle to vehicle without pulling the wheel. Also nice in that it is only one investment, some systems you need to add a hydraulic valve to each vehicle at substantial cost.

I use an EZ-Guide for drilling beans and we have an Outback S2 for sparying. Both work just fine but I much prefer the EZ-Guide. However, the S2 is half the price!

Dad uses a Trimble EZ Guide Plus and a 250 and has good luck with them spraying, spreading fertilizer and manure. EZ Guide Plus would be cheaper, but the 350 is more intuitive to operate.

There should be a calibration in the Trimble to add the height of your antenna and hitch to account for tilting on rolling ground. Check the manual.
