And now for something a little different. Who was the last major mfg. to put a diesel engine in their tractor? I'm thinking Mineapolis Moline. But I'm just guessing. Sorry this is tractor related.

Ford? If you don't count Ford European models ?

Nope. Nope, Nope, would have to be McCormick since it is a relatively new make and not a rehash of another manufacturer?

I've read this several times and having a problem understanding what you are asking. Case IH,John Deere,Agco and a multitude of other "major" Manufacturers of Tractors in forign countries are installing diesel Engines in thier tractors as you,I and several others are cognizant of,or is this one of those "Gotcha' kind of questions.Hmmmmm?

OK,now I get it. Hmmmm, maybe you are right. It took MM a long time to offer a Diesel but eventually they did. MM was great in promoting Propane power along with Gasoline. Back in the old days ['50's&'60's] of the last Century, California Packing co. or as we knew it "Calpak" was a major user of MM power on the many thousands of acres of farm ground they covered all over the world.Thier use of MM power was a major boost to MM and most of this power was propane fueled. The first Diesel MM I remember was a UB model at a dealership in the late '50's which did not garner much interest with the MM Propane crowd.

The last US manufacturer to get modern and offer a diesel engine in their tractor lineup? Like back in the early fifties, late forties?

Ford and Minnie come to mind? The first U diesel was offered in 1953 according to a book I just glanced through. Jim

If Moline started in '53, it would have to be Ford. 601 and 801 series's started in, what, 1955? Did they have diesels available from the start on those tractors?

The Nebraska test book shows the 841 D as the first Ford diesel tested there, unless I missed something, but that's pretty late in the game. They must have had one before that. Jim

Here's some look ups I did today: John Deere in 1949 with the R model-
Case in 1953 with the 500-
AC in 1955 with the WD45-
IHC in 1934 with the WD40-
Ford in the USA with the 601-901 in 1958- Massey-Ferguson in 1957 with the MF65-
Oliver in 1940 with the 80-
MM was in the early '50's my reference said with no year given.
Looks like Ford 1958 wins in this batch of last Diesels.
