A local Television station anchor said in their newscast yesterday:

"Veterans Day at Fort Drum [New York] will be observed tomorrow [Thursday] because today is a Federal Holiday."

How ironic is that????? Must not want to pay overtime.

Geez.. I worked yesterday all evening long and got no extra pay for it! I did make sure old glory was flying straight though. Thanks Vets!

A recent headline in our local paper read "Wounded Soldiers Find Solace in the Salmon River". Turned out it was about fishing, but you'd think the editorial staff would catch something like that.

It means that the many civilian employees will be off. There's probably hundreds, if not thousands of civilian employees on a base that size. There will not be any supply or admin. personnel there, as well as a lot of training and range control personnel. And a lot of the military people that have regular office hours will not be in, they'll get a pass for the day.

I'm active in the military and worked all day (for the military) on Veteran's Day. What's up with that? In fact, most veterans I know work on Veteran's Day while non-vets enjoy the day off.

News anchors look good, have pleasing voices and can read a teleprompter. Writers feed the prompters. Neither has the foggiest idea what the words are saying.
I'll bet one or the other wiil be elected to a high political office someday.
