what pressure do you guys set the well pump to?

Depends on pump. Shallow well pressure switch set at factory 20- on 40 off. Deep well is factory set at 40 on 60 off. Submersible pumps is an animal all together. Tank size also is different for many bladders . How much air required to fill the bladder in the tank is another question.
Square -D- makes most pressure switches set and adjustable. Line voltage going to switch, wire size . Some pumps can be operated on 110 vt. and can be switched to 220 for cooler operation. What size wire is being used to power the switch. I"ve seen 14-3 hooked to 220 volt. WAY TO LIGHT. LOU

Mine's set 80/100 psi. That one hydrant sure puts out water, then there's a 50 psi pressure drop getting up to the house. Not flatland here.

30-50psi on a 1hp sub. pump with a large pressure tank. I ran 1" supply lines to all outside hydrants and to the house. That is enough for good flow and pressure without working the pump very much.

Low cut-in can be whatever you want. Depends on what is the lowest pressure you're willing to toletate, which is usually 15-30 PSI. High limit on submerged pumps is usually 50, submerged Jet -40, in-house shallow jet the same at 40, and piston pumps sometimes have to be set at 20-25.
There is sometimes also a low-pressure shut-down set at 5 - 10 PSI. If pressure drops below that, power gets turned off and left off. Mainly there in case of a broken pipe or dried-out well.

I think ours shuts off around 40-50 and turns on around 20-30. I'm happy ours doesnt have a low pressure shut down, when i fill the big cattle trough (450gal), i come right off a 2" line all the way down to the trough and that causes the pressure to drop down to about 2 psi. We used to fill it using a water hose which took forever. I dont know what the pressure at the house is its crap though (separate well). We are always getting air in the lines and the water doesnt taste that great. Bad when the cows are drinking better than you. That water tasts just like bottled.

Hello buickanddeere,
A water well switch has a about a 20# differential. You can't set it at 20# to 60#.
For homes without sprinklers 30# to 50# is more then adequate.
For a sprinkler though, you may want to set it a bit higher, set it at 40# to 60#.
Guido.

Hello buickanddeere,
I read my post and it is not what i wanted
to say.
You can set the pressure at any differential you like, the normal setting is 20# difference.
50# for the normal setting ,without sprinklers.
60# for a sprikler system.
You may want to keep both pressures a bit closer for a more constant output.
Remember it is better the pump stay on then cycle on and off. That works hard on the unit.
Guido.

good pluming 40 60 sometimes 50 75. poor pluming 20-40. a good submus. will pump 100 psi. I have seen a new goulds 3/4 hp. pump 125 psi in a ioo' well

I set mine to run about 30 to 45. Seems like there is a big difference in flow at 20 vs. 40, and I don't like the flow at 20. I don't need 50 psi. So I don't load it up with that. I'd just as soon it run a little more often.

Shallow jet pump with new parts I set at 40-60. When it does not like to build to 60 lbs. any more due to worn internal parts I back it up to 30-50 and start gathering parts, usually impeller, diffuser and seal.

Pretty sure mine is set 45-65. I had to turn it up a little from factory setting, my house and barn are about 45' up hill from the well. 30lbs at the well is just a trickle at the house.

Just had a new deep well pump installed last week. Replaced the old 18 year old pump.

Installer said, "Set the pump cutOFF pressure at 50 PSI. Keep the tank pressure at 2 PSI below the kick ON pressure." Kicks ON at 30 PSI. Tank is 28 PSI.

He is a third generation local well driller, and his 20 year old son did the complete installation by himself - well, I helped by handing him tools.

Also, you can buy a 20/40 switch, or a 30/50 switch, and maybe more choices that I'm not aware of. The new Square D 30/50 switch that I installed was factory preset to kick off at about 45 PSI, according to the new pressure guage. I spun it up to 50 PSI. Guage may be wrong - it was only a couple bucks, but you gotta believe in something. . .

I run 45 kick on / 65 kick out. I don't like slobbering water, don't like slow dribbles coming from hoses, and despise waiting for hot water. I want that water there and quickly, so this is the setting I use. Excessive pressure? Absolutely not, copper pipes lasted for 30 years without fault, replaced with new cpvc flowguard gold, 6 years without fault. No pipe vibration whatsoever. Pump equipped with anti-sand sock filter. Well has never run dry even in our 10 year drought spell which ended two years ago. In addition, water has to be pushed a quarter mile to the barn.

Washing machine fills up right quick. Grandmother had a very primitive 1950 well water supply, about 25 pounds of pressure. Talk about waiting for a bath.

During tree watering season here, spring, summer and fall. The submersible pump is set for 15-65 at the tank.Less cycling of the pump as I suspect that's the bulk of the system's wear.
The daughter did complain about intermittent low pressure in the shower.I can't see how it matters as she stays in there anyways until the hot water is gone.
For the winter season the pressure gets dialed to approx 20-50psi.
