Hay price in your area?

What I have seen in the paper around here has been any where from $2 grass and clover mix in the field to $4 teff in the field, to $5 alfalfa.

Round bales $20 to $35.

thats about right pricing for us here .with 3 out of 5 yrs being droughty ... all the horsey people got rid of their animals , just don't have a good market for hay around here .. Need to sell a bunch ,, or I will be dragging them in the house next spring and pouring milk on em ' and eating the bales like shredded wheat ....
 
See quite a few ads with squares in the $2 range, I've sold about 300 small squares at $3. Needed a little cash for a project I'm working on. Round bales I've seen ads from $12-60, depending on the hay. Some of the $12 bales I would have bought for my beef cows had they been closer to home. Most hay has to be less than $25 in rounds to sell. Central MN.
 
I said last year that high hay prices would cut animal numbers.Its happening here,horses are being offered To Rescue outfits.They wont take them because they cant afford to feed them either.Saw hay priced at 5.69 a square bale, some at 2.50.Lot of unmowed fields.Saw a lot of firewood piles on an 80 mile trip yesterday.High oil prices have sold a lot of pellet and wood stoves.
