water injecton

Rumley oil pull & McCormick Deerings that burned

kerosene injected water into the carburetor,

why was this done?

If you're getting ready to tear down an engine (car or lawnmower) If it still runs, warm it up then mist water in the carb while revving. The combustion chamber will look like new when you open it.

May also be for cooling. Some aircraft engines use a mixture of water and alcohol for cooling at high power settings. I don't see why it wouldn't work on other engines. stan

Has a 400 small block chevy that blew a head gasket, the piston next to were the gasket blew was nice and shiny, the others were black with carbon., that one piston was so clean you could eat of it....j

To reduce pre ignition (spark knock) when using relatively low octane tractor fuels such as Distilalte or Drip Fuel or Kerosene. At least thats why Old Deeres did it that burned tractor fuel.

Vaporizing water absorbs a lot of weight per gallon or by pound.
A wee mist of water droplets drawn into the combustion chamber along with the air-fuel mixture. Absorbs heat during the compression stoke and reduces the peak temperatures.
Adding enough water keeps the air-fuel mixture below it's auto-ignition temperature during compression and waits for the plug for ignition. Too much water and the engine will sputter and put water into the crankcase lube.
