Hello,
I have finally recovered from falling off the barn roof, and have just cranked my restored CA. I have a charging problem. The ammeter is not moving at all the way I have it wired, and the generator is not charging. I reversed the wires on the ammeter, and when I pull the switch to the light position, the cutout points stick, and the amp gauge pegs all the way to positive and the cutout point stick. I have to cut the engine and unstick the points. I reverse them back, and then no movement at all no matter if the engine is running or not when the switch is in any position. Any suggestions? Thanks, Lynn

Well the wires on the amp gauge are probably correct as they are!
If it is 6 volt, the chances are it is positive ground. Hook the battery up positive ground. Now turn on the lights to see if the amp gauge goes toward discharge (about 8 to 10 amps if the lights work) Next polarize the generator. (do not start it) use a jumper and ground the F terminal of the generator to shiny metal, then use a stout wire, and jump between the Bat terminal on the reg to the Arm terminal on the reg. This will spark.
Be ready to pull off a battery cable if the points stick.
(by the way reversing the wires should make no difference in anything but which way the needle moves, unless you ar not moving all the wires)
There should be only one wire going to the starter switch from the amp meter, no other wires on that terminal. Let us know, JimN

Jim,
Thank you for the response. I had previously attepted to polarize the generator, but I omitted the step of using a jumper from the field terminal to shiny metal. (It is positive ground, 6 volts). I will give it another try.
Thanks,
Lynn
