Hydraulic Cylinder using dual action for single

I have a '53 8N that has a Paulson end loader. I need to replace the hydraulic cylinders. They are single action cylinders that lift the loader bucket. The bucket uses gravity for down return and has a manual dump.

I can find dual action cylinders at the local Northern Tools that will fit dimension wise. Can I use these dual action cylinders in a single action mode?

Yes. Put a filter in the unused cylinder port to keep it clean. That port must be freely vented, not plugged.

Yes you can and they make a vent plug that you screw into the empty just for that. I have a set up on a MOCO I have set up the way you want to set yours up and it works well
