bailing hay

jus wondering what tractors do you guys use to bail hay, mow hay, tedder, rake, move wagons etc. I was jus wondering for sh!ts and giggles.

we use a JD 830 (3 cylinder 1974 model) to mow, tedder and rake and a MF 1080 to bail hay.

my cousins use a white american 80 FWD to mow hay. a little ford to tedder, a oliver 1655 to rake and a JD 4320 to squarebail. They move wagons with a Oliver 1855 and a Farmall 806. They also rounbale with a Ford/New Holland 7610. They love all brands of tractors as you can see. lol

I also work on another farm. This farmer uses a JD 7610 to mow hay, a JD 4020 to tedder, a JD 6320 to rake, and a JD 4455 to squarebail. He uses another 4455 to move wagons and spear round bales. He also uses a different 4455 to round bail.

thanks-

We use an MF 35 for all of it, just got some in today. About 150 square bales, but not bad for it being so early in the haying season here in northern NY. All of our haying equipment is from the 50s and 60s and has mostly apparently had a hard life before we got it, so I just do what I can and take it slow. We only need 80 for ourselves, and we usually sell as much as we can get in depending on the weather.

I use a 57 model 860 ford and a 55 model 860 ford and a 57 model 860 ford. Sometimes rake with my 51 farmall super c. The 674 International just watches. We square bale with a 68 New Holland and 268 New Holland balers.

Oliver 77 to pull the NH 460 MOCO, raking depends on how I feel. It can be a Farmall H or a JD-B or an Allis C. I use an Oliver Super 88 to pull the NH 850 round baler and an Allis D-17 to pull the NH 271 square baler

We use either our MF 285 or Oliver 1855 on the 14' hesston hydro-swing, the 285 goes on the baler and we pull wagons around with the 1600. I like to rake with the 1600 also, but Dad prefers to use the 285.

The last 2 years we chopped 1st crop and put it in a bag. Cut it with the 285, run the chopper with the 1855, and run the rented bagger with an IH 986 we rent from a company down the road. 1600 sits that one out.

Not one to exagerate, Grandad said he baled over 5 million bales with a straight H, custom haying late 40's thru the 70's. So that's what I use too. Once in a while the M, just to keep it loose. Hesston Swather, 24 JD baler onto the ground, custom homemade Monster haywagon. Kansas weather doesn't require a lot of raking.

We used to mow with a #5 deere on a '35 JD A, then take the mower off and rake with the A. When dad bought the new 630 the A was put in the stable and we were on top of the world. The baler was a Deere 14T pulled by a 60. Then we graduated to a 24T and 730 gas. At the end of the small square baling days we were really uptown with a 336 baler behind a brand new 4030. The bales were all handled by hand. The guy unloading the rack was in his upper 70's and could work all day but he had his one speed. No faster and no slower, but steady as a rock. He pretty much dictated how fast we baled, usually in the area of 1000 bales in an afternoon. Jim

Well I mow with a 1944 Farmall H and IH 1100 9" sickle-bar mower. Follow that up with a 1941 Farmall B pulling a New Holland 56 rake.
Bale with a John Deere 4030 pulling a John Deere 336 square baler on the ground. Unhook the baler and pull a New Holland 1010 bale wagon behind the 4030 to pick them up.
I think there is pic"s of all of them in the implement and tractor photo sections, under DJL.

Mow with 966 pulling Gehl 2160 MoCo. Rake 2 into one with Super H and IH 16 SD rake. Bale with NH275 behind 966. I only do 1800 bales, but that paid for the mower, baler and rake in one year.
Got lucky and picked up 20 9000 sisal twines for 120 bucks at local auction last summer

Mow with a 1085 Massey and 488 New Holland haybine, rake with 180 Massey and 55 New Holland rake, Square bale with 65 Massey and 336 John Deere, big round bale with 1105 Massey and 504F Vermeer. Move wagons and load big bale with a 2nd 180 with great bend 800 loader, and a 1845C Case skid loader.

Typically, the mowers are on a 5600 Ford and a 7610 Ford (orchard model). The 7610 gets the mower on it in the spring and it never comes off. Tedder, wheel rake, bar rake, square baler, and wagon mover is one of the 7600 Fords (with a canopy). The other 7600 gets one of the round balers. Its my dad's baling tractor and he cant hear the baler in the cab. Other raking and baler mover tractor is a 7610 Ford cab with loader. The other round baling tractor is a 7710 cab with loader. Finally, theres a Case 1845C skidloader with a bale spear for stacking round bales in the barn.

I like having common platforms. Most parts interchange. Mowers are both 5408 New Ideas, bar rakes are both NH 256's, round balers are both 650 NH's. The only singles are the square baler 336 JD, wheel rake 9 wheel M&W, and tedders one NI and one IFT.

We will be baling next weekend weather permitting.

Spent this weekend getting all the equipment ready.

This season we will use "Vernon" our 56 Model 70 Gas tractor and the 9ft JD 350 sickle mower.

We will post some "action" photos and maybe a couple of videos of the operation next week.

I work part time at a farm museum. We put up about 500 bails a year for our own animals.Last year we did the mowing with a 1949 Ford 8N and a 501 mower. To rake we pulled a New Idea pin wheel behind a 1950 Farmall Cub. A 1953 Massy Harris Mustang had the job of tedding with an old Kuhn and bailing with a New Holland "69" with a Wisconsin on it.
All and all everything went pretty well but I'm sure glade I don't have to make a living that way.
It's all for the show.

2470 Case pulling 1431Nh disc cutter (way more power than need but only uses 4gph fuel), 255 Massey with NH 256 rake tedder, JD3020 pulling JD700 twin rake (same as Vermeer R23A), 6290 MF pulling Heston 956 round baler, and Ford 276II bi-directional to load bales on a 72 Chev.
I not a fan of any Color.
Will add pict's when haying in July

I had an Oliver 88 on a 24T John Deere for years. Smooth 6 cylinder power and I loved the independent PTO with lever by the seat. I hate to admit that I put a John Deere 70 diesel on that baler and broke shear pins every 50 feet. The baler did not like that 2 cylinder engine at all.

This year its my L285 Kubota for raking The Cockshutt 35 and my IH 46 baler for baling and for mowing our New to us JD 1209 MOCO 9 ft. pulled by the Ih 1066 (OK its over kill but the Case 485 is down for a while.
We are starting tomorrow if all goes well.

First year I hayed was 1975, used an 8N Ford on a MF Dyna-balance sickle bar mower; IH W4 on an old AC Rake/Tedder (side delivery rake, PTO driven, lever reversed the direction of tines so you could "ted", after a fashion, until all the tines were broken), and JD 420 tractor (live PTO) on a 1959 Ford 250 baler. Final year was 2002 or thereabouts, mowed with IH 674 on a Taarup 3 point mower conditioner, Oliver 550 on a Deutz-Fahr rake/tedder and NH 275 baler.

Never enjoyed it much- I don't do too well in the sun and the heat. Wife now makes arrangements for hay purchase (about 600 bales) in the field and hay crew (they're her horses), and the best years are when its all done before I get home from work.

We use a Massey 175 with a G206 Continental gas to cut with a New Holland 472 haybine. We rake with a Massey 135 with a Z145 Continental gas raking with a New Holland 256 rake. We square bale with either tractor using a New Holland 271 that we saved from the weeds a few years ago. We round bale with the 175 using a CaseIH 3450 round baler. When we need both tractors to rake at the same time or we need a back up rake we have a Oliver 207 rake. It has seen better days but it still does a decent job. But it only gets used a little each year.
