ford 5000 pto problem

i can work this tractor all day with no problems,but once i disengage the pto it will not work again. the lever moves to the engage position, but pto won't turn. if the tractor sits over night it will work the next day. any advice would be great thanks

Check the hydraulic oil. It could be low. If not it's likely a control valve problem. You can try snapping the valve in and out several times and see if it catches, or shut the tractor off and then restart it... or if it's a big enough issue, pull the lift cover off and change the valve.
That's probably going to put a bad hole in a big bill...
