Rain or Snow

Allan Are you getting more snow out there or is it warm enough for rain?

Got a bit of rain here this am.

Taking a little break from planting corn because of it.

Not pushing to hard to get the corn in the ground here as it has been cold and is gonna get cold next week.

I don't want to plant it twice but I don't want to pass these dry ground conditions to get some in the ground.

How's the planting progress in your area?

Gary from SE Iowa

Some spring wheat went in the ground Thursday. Mitchell SD broke 70 year old record high temp with 92 degrees Thur afternoon. Then we got a trace of snow Fri night!

Gary,

I expect that corn will have a couple of weeks to come up before you need to be concerned. Corn I planted in the garden about a week ago is not up yet. Temps in the 80s here for the next few days so should see some up soon.

Allan,

Sounds like you are getting some moisture this spring. Grass and crops should be good.

Finally got 3/4 inch here in SE MN too. Supposed to get more on Sunday. I have about 1/4 of my corn planted but I've been stalling because of the cold ground temps and dryness. Still early and I hate to put corn in cold dry now wet ground. Corn planted after May 1 most likelly will still beat corn planted April 20 out of the ground with a better stand to boot. I'd say 70% of the corn is in the ground around here but most of thats BTO's who race each other to see who finishes first. I bet some will be replanting some of what they planted the first week of April when I was planting oats. They never learn.

I"d like a break from the rain. We had three inches a week ago Friday. Wife and I went to Austin for the night(90miles away) came home and the road was washed out in places, a new creek was cut through my property, and all my newly seeded bahia grass that was about 1 inch tall you can now see the white root it looks like. I was hoping this grass would get a stand before this kinda rain because the last rain washed away all my errosion control. Oh well all the crops around here are about 6-10 inches tall and looking great. Take what you can get I guess. The rain guage had 5 1/2 inches in it and its only a 6 inch. All that rain came overnight. Caleb in Bryan TX
