wd9 rear oil seal leak

I think I have developed a rear main engine seal leak on my WD9. Is there some way around this problem without pulling the engine? Anyone know of any tricks? Can I do anything or will I see much by dropping the oil pan? I believe the oil seal is retained on the back of the engeine with a two half cap that retains a rope type seal.

No need to pull the engine. The clutch and flywheel come out the top through the clutch access cover. The original seal is the rope style but there is also an update to a lip style seal.

Wondering how the clutcha and flywheel come off throught the top. Is the transmission input shaft not in the way of removal. If you are confident that this can all be done throught the top then fantastic. There is a two piece cap retraining the seal. Am I correct? Any more detailed information would be appreciated.
