my next project. Its complete, and its not stuck. Unlike the last C, this one doesnt have any camero parts or welds in odd places so i have a good feeling about it.

The rear tires are fine, and the front ones are shot. All the rims are in real good shape, but the wireing is no good. Its a huge mess with lots of bare wire and cracked insulation and the works.

Ive never re-wired a tractor before, but im willing to give it a try. This tractor has a delco distributor thats damaged, i dont know a thing about them. I think i'll rig up R aikin's mag and see if i can get it running this weekend. Anyone out there who works on distributors??

The sheet metal on this is OK, grill has lots of little dents in it, one side of the hood is caved on about an inch, battery box is corroded and rusted out in sevral places. The manifold is also paper thin and welded several times.

How easy is it to clean out an allis C sized gas tank?? The B's tank is being done in the next town over, and for $100 from the radiator shop id rather do it myself. Can you use some sort of acid or something or do you have to use the nuts and bolts method??

The tractor itself is an early model or atleast it has the sttering off one. It steers really smooth, unlike the B. Its got foot brakes and hydrolics.

Sweet rig! Keep in mind, a C is just a B with a narrow front. Everything else is about the same.

Looks like you distributor is ok, just the distributor rotor is broken. Get down to an auto parts store and they can get you a new rotor. Might clean the points under the rotor, too, and I bet you'll have spark.

Looks like they've done SOME re-wiring, and it doesn't look like it needs much to run, electricity-wise. Charging system and lights need work, but that can come later.

For the gas tank, get you some Muriatic acid. Should have it at a hardware store in the paint OR swimming pool supplies section. Might hafta be a little older to buy it, though. Take your gas tank off, and mix up some 50/50 water/acid mix with nuts and bolts or chain and tumble. Acid will do ok by itself, the pieces in there will be good. Do that a couple times and WEAR GLOVES AND GOGGLES. Crappy clothes, too, 'cause it'll probably bleach or put holes in your threads. Rinse it well with water a few times and you'll be good.

Should get ya started. Congratulations on the new iron! Later, man.

yea. keep and USE the delco distributor one of the best ever made. looks like you will need new cap, you know where the plug wires plug in. and a rotor. and while you are at it use some of that money you are saveing on gas tank cleaning job to buy new points and condenser, also check distributor shaft, make sure its turns ok, will only turn about 1/4 turn but should be easy. should also be a cap or screw on side of dist. to put in a drop or 2 of oil. ONLY a drop or 2 good luck and keep us posted ps these parts are cheap.

I'm sure you feel like you have allot on your plate with this one. It appears to me that its going to be pretty easy. Most of the major stuff is free and turning. Electrical, ignition are all easy items. Paint and body work is easy items. It should be a great investment for ya.

Lanse,
A distributor ignition is simple and very easy to troubleshoot, give it a try before you replace it with the Mag with a bad impulse or the IH mag that you couldn't make work on the B. For the gas tank I'd fill it with E85, any acid will affect the galvinizing inside the tank and require a sealer or you will only rust up again, get a tank filter (about one quart size) and plumb it in instead of the sediment bowl it will not clog easily, and after the E85 has loosen the sediment and cleaned the tank you can replace the original sediment bowl and fuel lines.

Hi, Lance. Pretty good looking C for $200. For your information. It has 6 volt positive ground electric system. You will need a battery in it, hooked up for the distributor to have any spark. The large bracket with the levers is for a cultivator. It mounts on the fender mounts behind the seat, and has a place for the hydraulic cylinder to hook up to it. The other piece goes on the front and is where a 2 row cultivator fastens onto. Have fun. Chris

I remember back in 2007 you had a name " I WANT A FARMALL LANSE" you sure are filling your plate up with these Allis. That last one for $200 would bring that a few times over in parts, good deal!

You can't go wrong with a $200 tractor that is free and not in too bad a shape! The wiring and air cleaner look to be the most time consuming things to deal with besides painting, but overall it looks like a really nice deal! Have fun, and keep us updated.

Oh yeah,........careful with that carb!! :)

NAPA sells a gas tank cleaning kit that has 3
quarts. a cleaner, a rinse, a coating, It worked
real good for me on a Wisconsin V4 engine five
gallon tank. Pricey though, around $50.
