Mother nature has not been kind this spring. It is wet and cold and going to get wetter and colder, if you can believe the weathermen. Still it is time to be ready because when the time comes it could be a race against the clock just like last year. Still have corn to pick, manure to spread and oats to sow before the real farming starts. Should start having calves soon and need to get the fences ready to turn the cows to pasture. Need to grind a bunch of feed so I dont have to worry about that while we are in the field. I'm sure there are a bunch of other things but they will have to wait.

The versatile is in the shop getting some last minute service performed. I think it has a small radiator leak, anyone want to come help with that little project?

Most of the dekalb corn is in the barn along with all of the chemicals. Talked to the pioneer salesman today and he will bring corn next week.

Travis and hooked up both the planter and sprayer this afternoon. Still need to put the monitors in and kick the tires but getting closer to ready.

We took time today to put new cab interior in the 1086 and we put the duals on for the first time in a few years, note the amount of dust on the duals.

The weather will get better and we will go to the field. It would be nice to be able to start planting corn in 20-25 days.

The wife and I took a little road trip last Saturday down to Nebo, IL. Our anniversary is Sunday, the 29th. Checked out Heartland Lodge down there, we are staying Sunday night. We are taking one horse and I am taking the little Polaris 350. Sportsman 500 4x4 has a broken motor mount.

Anyhow, I can't believe that they are actually griping they need moisture, but it is true, they do. Some NH3 being spring knifed, along with lots of tillage being done. It does indeed look awful dry there. Less than 100 miles south from me.

I am SO TIRED of the cold and wet. Took the back road home from running over to Carthage last evening, had to drive through flood water AGAIN. It was only about 3 inches deep, so could see no damage had occurred to the road. BUT, is it ever going to dry up? Or when it does, is that going to be the last of the rain all summer? DOUG

If you look real hard, there is one hiding behind a red tractor.

OK, I had even been told this when I was a parts man at a Deere dealer, that the reason JD's are green is so they can hide in the grass while the red tractors work.

SMILE!

Wow. As James and I say, that is some serious farming equipment.

Crazy weather. Weatherman says a big cold front is coming our way. Temp is supposed to dip to 35 Sat nite and windchill Sat is supposed to be in the teens. Panhandle could see a foot or more of snow.

I'm stuck in Dallas this w/e finishing up our taxes. Hope my tomatoes at the farm don't get frost bit.

Thats a nice weight bar on your Versatile. Does it help to put the weight out front like that? I want to add ballast weight to my 4-150 White but I was thinking either fluid in the tires or just mount tanks on it, either a set of saddle tanks or one right in between the rear tires on top of the rear finals.

How do you keep the mice out of your seed?

I'm jealous of your shed. I'm tearing down a crib so I can build myself a machine shed of relatively small size.

We took the fluid out of the tires several years ago. We scaled the tractor and put the weight back on as cast iron weight so we could add in the fall and remove in the spring as needed front and rear. The radial tires made a big difference in how it performed.
There are some cats running around the farm and I sprinkle lots and lots of moth balls around the barn. Rarely have any problems. Good luck on your shed. We worked in a couple of old barns for years. Hard to believe looking back.

I'm obviously not a corn farmer, by my question: Don't the stalks break down in the snow and rain, and everything just falls to the ground? How could you still have corn to pick? Just curious. Around here, sweet corn stalks, at least, will be toast by December.

Nice looking equipment lineup, but the way. I'm sure that radiator project on the Versatile shouldn't take more than 30 minutes, should it? Just have one of the kids take that big lightweight plastic thing off the front, etc, etc., :>)

I enjoy seeing pics of Wrigley, I also have a red heeler we call Tanker, he could be a twin to Wrigly except for a scar right between his eyes. The fellow we got him from said he chased the calfs all the time and got kicked, of corse he didn't learn which is how we ended up with him, no cows to chase at my house. Really a neat dog, I think he was about 3 months when we got him & now almost 3 years old. Have fun & keep the cool pics coming. Wrigly too!

Hey Biil:
Better back the tractors into the shed. Doesn't seem like winter wants to give up on us yet, but looks like your'e ready. Hope it's just a couple of weeks till SPRING! Good to see Travis helped you out. I also miss the Wrigley pictures - This "might" be the year!

I don't think dad is even close to ready, he got a new planter and it isn't even here yet. Got some time, but it is coming fast.
