just curious how many of you guy's type with one finger ? some of these post's have 50 to 100 words or more,it took me a couple minutes just to post this one

Guilty but I use one finger on each hand. 20-30 words per minute if good enough.
Thank goodness for the "spellcheck" function.

Tractor time wasted, I placed a post on here to get people to exercise all their digits, maybe you missed it,.

Thats me also, one or maybe two fingers on each hand get it done. I usually can get better than 30 words except when I am thinking at the same time.

thats me i sometimes use 2 fingers but it takes me 3 or 4 proof reads to fix all the mistakes on the post when i do that, even then sometimes i miss some, i took a semester of typing class in high school but that 35 years ago, and there was this really hot chick in there ,well i didnt get to much typing done

Not only can I type with one finger. But I am multi tallented. I can do two things at once. See.

Taking a typing class sure makes a difference. I did too. Got pretty good at it for a while there. Remember we're talking those old Royal manual typewriters! My biggest problem is usually trying to look down and see where my hands are on the keyboard. ASDFJKL: And the spelling. Boy if you don't use it you lose it. I should get a dictionary around here just for posting on the internet.

I'm a touch typist, but not a very good one. I work with guys who can hunt 'n' peck nearly as fast as I touch-type. When I was in high school, typing was almost a required course. Although many of the skills I learned (like how to correct a mimeograph) aren't in much demand, touch-typing has served me well. I work in IT and spend several hours a day at the keyboard.

i am two finger and to think in school days was a 50 word minute typer and that was on the old non electric machines

I use two fingers and sometimes my thumb for the space bar. I took typing years ago and still remember the basics of the touch system but I can type this way alot faster. the main difference is I have to look down often and watch the keys instead of the screen but once I really get going I don"t even have to do that alot. I"ve watched my sister and wife both type and their both behind computers all day and do it "the right way" and I"m usually as fast or faster than either one of them so I must be doing something right.

I hired a gal who was supposed to be a really good typist, turns out she was really just a hunting pecker type

You guys have such a good way of using play on words when describing your typing. Thanks for the morning humor.

My daughter-in-law graduated from college with a four point with a psych degree, but she types hunt and peck faster than I can type the 'correct way'. It just amazes me to watch her.

For the first couple of weeks after the right shoulder surgery I was forced to type one finger-one hand left handed. It was terrible. When I made entries in Quicken I was reversing numbers like crazy. Must be a left-brain right-brain thing cause I'm not ambidexterous in any way shape or form.

One more interesting thing, I had to re-edit this post because it was kicked out for using unacceptable language. I finally figured out that when I described my daughter-in-law's graduation from college I used suma ---- laude to describe her grades. I didn't realize the filter was quite that sensitive.Jim

Two finger typer with spell check attached. I make many typos so i have to spend as much time fixing errors as i do typing.. At least I get the job done and only a couple of hours to do it..

I took a typing class in HS - all we had were manual typwriters and it was kinda a throw-away class - one of the best things I did!

Me two - and I work with computers too! There have been times I really wished I had taken that HS typing class....

Took typing during high school, 20+ years ago when it was called "typing" and not "keyboarding". One of the most useful high school classes I ever took, which isn't exactly a ringing endorsement of the quality of a high school education, even 20 years ago, but at least I can type. My handwriting is so poor that being able to type legibly and quickly has made a tremendous difference in my ability to communicate, as someone who had to stumble through my handwriting was much more apt to base their opinion of that writing on the handwriting, rather than the content.

I spent many years as an "executive assistant" aka secretary. Learning to read bad hand writing was an art I perfected over the years.

No, I'm not a two finger typist.

The kids just starting school are learning to keyboard in First & Second grade. I just hope they don't start teaching Thumbing for those small keyboards on the phones. Text messages are good but can do it on those phones.

Well according to your dimwitted logic, I couldn't have learned it from my mother. What I did learn was how to live a Christian life from her example. I know you won't be able to grasp this, she is an old fashioned on her knees Christian, not a sissified abundant.

Senior in high school in 1961; had a free period and signed up for typing, but I don't remember why. Had about 30 Royals and 2 Remingtons; I got one of the 2; by the end of the year, I could do 80-plus words a minute. For almost 50 years, I'v been glad I 'took' typing. Reminds me.......friend who's the long-time parts manager at the local JD dealership is missing the end of a fore-finger (at the first joint) ....lost it to an ax when chopping kindling as a child. He signed up for typing and been in class about 2 weeks before 'Miss' Barnard noticed the missing joint; she threw him out of class. He loves telling the story.

My mom was a secretary, and insisted I take typing in HS. Manual typewriters, quirky teacher- "Sit up straight, feet flat on the floor, eyes on copy, ready, TYPE!" We had to do at least one "timed writing" at 50 words per minute to get an A, as well as at least one perfect letter, without errors. I hit 50 on the last opportunity of the course, and turned in a perfect letter on the last day.

Make sure your kids learn to type (I think mine taught themselves- don't remember if there was a computer course or something, but they could all touch type "really fast" by the time they got out of grade school). Pretty much essential in today's computer workplace.

I'm up to 2 finger on 2 hands most days. Drives people who know how to type crazy when they watch me.

That's OK, cause being a 2 finger typist w / spell check, I found I had forgotten all of my high school typing class! Never thought I would need it to be a mechanic. Computers!! Who would have known 30 years ago!!!

My dad told all 4 of us kids to take typing in high school. In case any of us were drafted in to the service we would most likely become an office clerk. He said when he was in the Korean war draft they would ask who could type and there were some who could and then became office personnel.
I guess my dad either hated that he could not type or was jealous of those who got into the office. But any way typing has helped me. It's something you never forget. The more you use the keyboard the better you become.
They teach computers in school now in the low grades. I think they should learn the keyboard first and the proper way to use it.
It's like any other tool it can speed up the job once you've been properly trained on it. One good thing the keyboard never changes, look at it that way. There are books out there that are cheap to buy and I would recommend any one to get one who can't type. What's there to be a shamed of?? You have nothing to loose, only the open world to gain.

lol, I haven't had a disscussion with anyone at your mental level since I was in debate class in 7th grade. Thanks for bringing back good memories.

Took typing in high school. Fascinated by it. Got 3 awards I think, 40, 50 and 60. Used it in Navy because pay was better than electronics tech. Out of Navy, type no more until this. Manual typewriters were much easier for me. My fingers all move for every keystroke. Had to overcome sloppiness and arthritis. Getting by. Dave
