Wife just got the digital converter boxes yesterday, she got zenith ones. Hooked it up worked fine, but I had to unhook the Direct tv cable. Today I figured I would run the cables, and get it all up and running, but I couldent figure it out, called zenith, guy tells me we cant use the box on our sattalite tv! Now Im stuck with 2 boxes since none of our other tvs have the red, yellow, white jacks. Has anyone had this problem, is there any adapter I can hook in some were to switch from antenna to sattalite. Otherwise to watch local tv with this digital bax I have to keep unplugging my direct tv reciever box. thanks, jinNY

I don't know from personal experience, but we thought we couldn't hook a box to our small one in the bedroom because it didn't have the 3 wire hookup,so we bought a new TV. Gave the converter that we got with the coupon to our son. Told him it wouldn't hook to ours. He pulled everything out of the box and said "what's this then?". It had a single wire hookup too that just plugged in to the antenna jack. If that's the case,I'd think you'd just need a splitter from Radio Shack to hookup the box and the Direct TV.

Thanks, yes there is another wire, I see what your saying, its for a direct hook up for older tvs without the 3 plugs. So I'll have to go out and see if I can find some kind of splitter. Thanks JayinNY

You only need the converter box to pick up over-the-air broadcast TV signals with an antenna.

You do NOT need converter boxes if you have cable or satellite. You have Direct TV (as do I) and you could just add the local TV station package that is already in High Definition even if you don't have an HDTV yet.

Why didn't you check into this first instead of buying not one, but TWO converter boxes that you didn't need in the first place? lol

One question. If you have direct TV why do you need the converter box?

Are you getting any signals over the airwaves?

Jeff

No, I dont get local channels throught direct tv. I would need a different dish and a different channel package.

Have you called Direct as they offer local channels for additional cost. I find it cheaper than maintaining an antenna.

Your local friendly Radio Scrap store, or Wally Mart, should have what is called an "A-B" switch.
Connect the center jack on the switch to the TV antenna jack with a short cable, then the antenna & dish cables to the "A" & "B" jacks on the switch. Then you can select desired input with the punch of a buttom. Do not use a simple splitter connector. Having both converter box & dish connected together could let the smoke out of both.

You went from DTV box to antenna in on satelite, antenna out to tv right? Im going to my neighbors house after supper, Ill look at his. I know he has a Zenith box, but dont know how its hooked in, and he has Direct TV.

Does your DTV box have the standard cable "out" to the TV? Mine is not a Zenith, but it has both types of connections. I have the 3 wires hooked to the TV and the coax hooked to the VCR with the VCR connected to the antenna input on the TV. All I have to do is switch the input on the TV to go between VCR and DTV. HTH
Good Luck and God Bless.

You could by yet another box that converts the signal from the "RCA jack" which is the red/white and yellow wires to coaxial. This box can be found at radio shack for about $30 its called a RF Modulator. You can also get a 4 in 1 selector for $20 the press a button to select between devices. I would go with the 4 in 1 selector if you have a VCR,DVD,Sat and now DTV.

Newer TV set have multi inputs.
