Shields Bantam tractor

I know a guy who has a tractor he calls a Shields Bantam. It's an old garden tractor with a Wisconsin engine on it. I haven't seen it yet, but I might buy it if I can find anything about it. Anybody know anything about them? Any photos or specs? I understand it was built in Waverly, IA. Any information would be helpful. I googled it and all I got was cranes. Thanks.
Good Luck and God Bless.

Might pay to search google or google images with that name.
I still have an old Shields Bantam all mechanical(all cable winch/ mechanical brake) excavator that I used for years and has been parked in my mechine bone yard for 30 years. It is mounted on a GMC powered 6X6 truck chassis with a 6 cyl continental on the shovel excevator.

I never thought about what other lines they might have built including a garden tractor. Interesting, anyone know what else they built ?

Jon,

I also have a Bantam and it is still working,
it is missing the clutch activating lever that
goes inside the boom hoist drum. Do you bave any
idea where to look?
It's a T-35 mounted on a tandem with walking
beams and no springs.

Rev,

I just went over to the Garden Tractors forum and entered Bantam in the search box. Looks like there have been several postings about Bantams.

the bull gear cover.

Vern Shield started and ran a successful dragline company in Waverly Iowa after WW2. Every unit I have seen was a cable operated dragline on war surplus duece and halves. There are a few still around this part of Iowa that I roam. As the business matured or fell off to competition, he (I think retired) took a great interest in third world farmers and with volunteer help, church and service club funds, built "simple to fix" tractors for overseas sale/donation. I don't think there was any effort to market them in the US. Shield Bantam company has been bought out once or twice or more...the plant has been enlarged there in Waverly and they make Koerhing cranes there now. The plant is located on east/west Iowa Hwy 3 on the east side of town. It is approx 3-5 miles through town from US218/27. A great place to see a big horse auction yearly. Leonard

I don't think those Bantams are the simple (crude?)third world tractors that Vern Shield made with donations for the support of disadvantaged farmers overseas, I could be wrong but that would be unprecendented (for today :) )Leonard

I have to correct my post, the old shield bantam facility has expanded a good deal and the company there, Terex, makes boom trucks, truck cranes and rough terrain cranes. They employ 350 people and just today announced laying off 150. Boy and hope those folks in Washington get the infrastructure money going fast, so we need more cranes, crawlers, etc. I see John Deere laid off some in Davenport this past week. Leonard
