So tonight, my wife, another bridesmaid and I were leaving the rehearsal dinner of a friend of ours. As we were leaving the parking lot, I noticed a Toyota 4 runner in the bottom of a ditch, stuck. 6 girls were all standing on the other side of the ditch, with one in the driver’s seat. They were just in some slick mud, but stuck because they couldn't get up a 5' incline at about a 35-40 degree angle.
Another guy pulled up in a Jeep wrangler and told the girl, "If you have a rope, I'll pull you out."
She said, "My friend has one in her car."
I asked the driver if she minded if I gave it a shot to get it out. She said, sure.
The Jeep guy chuckled, and said do you want me to move my jeep.
I said sure, I am gonna rock it back and see if I can get it up the incline.
I am from the country and have gotten a couple trucks stuck way worse than they ever should have been and thought it might work.
Well, I put the 4Runner in reverse and backed up a little bit. Put it in drive and looked at the dash. That was when I noticed it.
IT WAS 4 wheel drive.
I just turned the switch on the dash. Rolled the window down to look cool and easily drove the 4 Runner onto the concrete driveway.
Girls on the other side of the ditch were cheering.
I was just glad to help. The driver then came up and said thank you. I can't believe you were able to get it out.
I politely showed her the switch on her dash. I asked her if she knew what that switch was. She said, "No. What does it do?"
"That is 4 wheel drive. 2 wheel high, 4 wheel high and 4 wheel low. Have a good night."
Tonight I was a hero. I impressed 6 distressed ladies, my wife and her friend with the turn of a switch.
