I was looking at a big oil storage tank that is at a battery site that isnt goin to be used any more, has anyone ever cut a tank in half lenght ways and made a shed out of the 2 halfs , or am i just dreaming and it cannot be done for some reason, if it has been done i would like to see a photo of the shed.

A friend has a 10 ft galvanized culvert about 16 ft long, planks across the bottom, closed up the back, stores all kinds of items in there, occasionaaly his MH22 tractor. Cannot see why it would not work. Dan

Sounds like you could be living dangerous.
You will probably need some sort of protection against fire/ explosion, I would ask an expert on how they eliminate the oxygen before cutting it .

It has been done to cut fuel oil tanks.

A guy just south of here burried one halfway in the dirt so only the top half was above the ground. Filled it half full of dirt on the inside. Used it for a hog shelter. No cutting.

so how did they cut it without explosion, these crude oil storage tanks are 40' across there big, so if you can get one cut in half it still be 20' in center, still dreaming,- Harold.

I just had an underground fuel storage tank
removed. Contractor was licensed by the state
of Wisconsin, had to file paperwork with the
state. They brought in a tank of NITROGEN and
'flooded the tank" with nitrogen, before cutting
it open to suck up any fuel residue left inside.
Contractor stated that before scraping the tank
they had to wash out the inside with a pressure
washer, and properly dispose of washings as
hazardous waste. (Wisconsin Law)
