Were the M1 and M2 plows any good?

I have negotiated for a John Deere m2 plow and would like to know if this was a good plow or not. If not then I will look for the pull type for a JD M. Thanks for any input

I had a 2 bottom for my M but sold it because I had no use for a plow and also after I removed the fluid from my rims I could not pull it even with a set of wheel weights. I did use it at a plow day before I drained my fluid and it was really impressive ! Had no problem pulling it in 3 rd gear. It actually plowed better fast in the corn stalks as if I went slower it seemed to plug up with stalks. I was moving so fast I had to keep stopping so I didn't run over the bigger G's and 60's ahead of me.
So I'd say with proper rear weight and frt. weight it will perform. But with little weight a 1 bottom would be better.

A pull type should make things worse I'd think ?

Thanks for the input. I grew up farming and sometimes implements did not work as they should. My fear was that it would be a pain in the rear plow and I would hate to use it. I plan to leave it on the tractor once set. I have 4 M,s 2 40's, 1 B and 1 A. I live in Eastern North Carolina and the soil is light and does not have a gumbo or clay base. Sounds like a 2 plow would be fine. Thanks again

Be cautious. The M1 and M2 might be for different tractors. Maybe the M2 is for the MT. Better verify before purchase. Plow bottoms for those probably are chilled (cast) iron and may not be available now.

no, the M1 is a 1 bottom plow for the M tractor and the M2 is a 2 bottom for the M.

the plows for the mt are MT1 and Mt2. Bill M.

That's a really good point brought up about verify exactly what plow it is as way too many ads say they fit M and MT but they don't and those plows take different hitch bars. Length and height is different of the long bar that goes under the tractor and the U shaped frt. bracket is different too.
