I have an old HD6 allis chalmers dozer that is locked up. it sat outside for about 5 years and the muffler got busted off. Does anybody have any tricks for getting it unstuck? When I move the fan manually, I can hear the crank a little bit move. But I just cant seem to get it loose. Any tricks? Thankyou

I've seen guys get a pry bar in on a tooth of the flywheel.

I've heard of taking an old starter apart and getting a wrench onto the shaft, saws pics of it on the King of Obsolete's webpage.

That would have a BUDA 4D344 Diesel engine?, I had an HD-6 years ago. First off are you sure its moving a little? If it is pour a little kroil or liquid wrench down the exhaust (thats were the water went) like 2 cups. Then get the blade up by jacking ect. drag it around for a little bit. Dont be hard with it, if its going to go it will. If I does not brake free, then you are going to have to take the valve cover off push rods (numbered) ect and work your way down. till you can free it up. I hope the steering clutches are good in yours, they usually cost more than what the machine is worth. good luck.

If rain has poured down it and filled a cylinder or two then frozen all the ATF in the world won't help but it's worth a try.

Take the head and the pan off. Disconnect the connecting rods from the crankshaft. Take out pistons and sleeves out the top. Then try to loosen them with Kroil and pressure from a hydraulic press accompanied by vibration from hammer taps around the outside of the sleeve. Trying to break a stuck engine by pulling the tractor is likely to bend rods and then they will break and make a new vent in the side of the block. Besides that cylinder won't fire because the piston won't be shoved all the way up by the bent rod and you will have to take it apart anyway.

Stuck valves in a diesel get hit by pistons that do reach the top of the stroke. Broken valves don't help the quality of pisstons or sleeves or the head.

The only tricks that I recommend is a new sleeves and pistons kit. Especially a diesel. I would never try to turn it over with the head on. You could find four of the valves rusted fast even if you were able to get the pistons to move.
This is one time my motto should not be adhered to.
If beating it with a hammer does not make it move get a bigger hammer.
Not with this.

Pull the head and pan and soak the cylinders with ATF. If it doesn't want to budge pour some kerosene in one cyl at a time and set them on fire. Have the rod caps loosen and remove the cap on the one you're heating. Take a piece of 2X2 oak and a big hammer and drive the rod & piston out. Keep anything flammable away from the fire. Hal

If it's really stuck and got water in it, chances are even if you break it loose and get it turning - the rings will be stuck in the pistons anyway - and you'll have to tear it down.

But, who knows - maybe you'll get lucky.

That 344 is a pretty expensive engine to buy parts for also. I've got an HD6 and love it - but I hope I never have to buy any engine parts for that Buda. Place in Louiana, and also AGCO, still sell most of the parts.
