Tight f4 magneto

I removed the magneto to replace the points and condenser, put it back together, and now the fiber gear will not turn freely. I have released the prawl on the coupler end. The only way I can get it to turn is by putting a wrench on the coupler end and turning it with some difficulty. Prior to taking it apart the fiber gear turned freely. I would appreciate any tips. Thanks

Scroll down at this link and find the 72 page IHC mag service manual covers F4 and others. Oiler felt pinched in between dist rotor gear shaft and bushing? If you took all apart and main rotor shaft is tight you may have got the thrust bearings together wrong or too tight? Those need to set up dry with preload at .001 - .002" clearance then greased before putting back in service. There are fine shims behind the inner bearing race on shaft that are removed or added to get that.

Thanks for the information on the mag manual. I wasn't sure how far I should into the mag. I'll let you know what I find. Thank Bigs

Three weeks have passed and I finally was able to remove the rotor fron my f4 magneto. A small piece of one of the contacts inside the mag body broke loose and caused the rotor to bind. I smoothed the finish on the rotor and the rough area inside the mag body. I installed the rotor and its still very tight. Should there be a light coat of grease on the rotor or will that impair the electrical contact. I couln't find that information on the mag manuals sight you refered me to. Thanks Bigs
