New Bush Hog Question

Just a thought, Since I have recently purchased a new Bush hog, how do You Guys feel about undercoating the frame,W/thick paint or other... It's Not been used Yet, Just want some comments,This would be the time, before it gets dirty/Muddy etc:Thanks fellas" Larry KF4LKU

Truck bed spray on liner or the gray stuff that John Deere used to sell to coat the undeside of their mower decks?/

Sounds like a good idea to me. Ours is about 20 years old and is rusting through, so I'm going to have to do some patching. It's a Long and has been through absolute hell. My grandfather thought nothing of mowing up 4" pecan limbs.

Coat it with the truck bed liner Menards sells, it's tough stuff. called Herculiner. You roll it on worked great on my truck and a mower deck.

Maybe you should have it rhino lined and see if there life time warranty will cover that. It would be nice to find out if there are all talk or if they would do it knowing it would get the heck beat out of it

Iam not sure anything would stand up to the abuse that the undersides of a brush hog takes.

generally that type of metal takes on a coating of oxidation/rust that in itself is kinda a protective layer.

My old mower is an actual Bush Hog brand and is 40+ years old. It was probably taken better care of the first 15 years of its life, but has been worked pretty hard the last part and sat outside.

I think it will just about outlive you if you take any kinda care of it.

I coat mine with medium size rocks and gravel, rust dosent stand a chance.

Any type of undercoating probably will not last very long with average use.

Most of the rust and pitting I have seen on mowers occurs on the top.

Keep the top clean of grass, mud, dirt, and such.

The grass clippings will hold moister if left on top of the mower.

Take a look at a product called POR 15 for rust.
