I recently entered my 1939 JD B into an antique tractor pull and was put into the wrong class because of there classification of the tractors weight. I am a firm believer that my tractor weighs less than 3,000 lbs. Am I correct?

The organizer of the event said it weighs 4,300 lbs according to a book that they used. No scales were used, just a reference book. Help me!!!

It weighs 2880 pounds with NO weight in the tires, so you're right.

PLEASSSEEEE be careful with that trailer set-up you have. You have a smaller chevy trailblazer and a single axle trailer... VERYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY unstable.

(quoted from post at 13:15:51 09/12/08) Weighs a lot more than 3k with those cast wheels.

I agree, it is probably closer to 4k. And as you have probably noticed with the high gearing and stock engine they are not the ideal pulling tractor in that class...

And don't pull it on that trailer with your Trailblazer, neither of them are built for it.

2880lbs???? Not even close. A friend of mine pulls a long hood B with a flat dash. 12.4 x 38 tires on pressed steel wheels, flat back w/o a rockshaft and a small driver and it will weigh 3350-3400 bare.

Iron wheels will add about 400-500 (I know its 500lbs on an A), add a rockshaft housing (200lbs). Not knowing how big the driver is, with a flat back it will be 3800ish and about 4000 with a rockshaft.

I have seen a B that is [i:cbc3a233e4]close[/i:cbc3a233e4] to that 2880 figure, and it took a lot of surgery to get there.

I have a 1940 B that weighs in at 3,250 with me on it and no weights. Around here they make me pull in the 3,500 lbs class.
I believe they need to invest in some scales, Next time you are out with it stop at a set of scales and weigh it then you will no for sure. If you can get a certified weight ticket on it then you will also have proof.

Nice tractor but I agree about the hauling setup. Let me know where you are headed as I shore ain't gonna drive behind you. It needs a tandem trailer , chains and a full size pickup.
