We have a Ollallover 880 I took on trade . It has the hy. hitch on it that has proved very handy moving things around the barn yard . 2 problems , first it is diesel and I don't want to start in the winter just to move something and the biggest problem to my son ---- it is a Oliver . I'm not bad mouthing Oliver but every other tractor we work is red . We have been thinking a 560 gas with fast hitch . I came across a 656 gas wide front with a loader and bush hog for 3800 . I'm thinking a 560 would be handier for a auger tractor . I want to be able run the PTO and throttle with out climbing up on it . Could I do that with a 656 ? With tractor would you pick for the job ?

Morning Larry,

If the clutch does not have a safety switch you can reach it all from the ground.

A 656 could be started from either side as well as engaging the PTO.

560 it is hard to reach across to engage the PTO.

I use a 560 and the pto lever is on the wrong side for me.

So most times the pto gets left on and started with the pto in gear.

My neighbor has a 656 and his will NOT run an auger. The hydraulic lever does not lock for running a hydraulic motor. He borrowed my 3pt bale wrapper last year and had to rig up a rope to run the hydraulic lever. He didn't know if it was broken or if it was designed without the feature.

A 656 gas will do everything you want with flying colors, won't even break a sweat!

We have a 544 (cut two cylinders off the 656, basically) that we use to run the auger, etc.

As far as the person with trouble locking the hydraulic lever - it's easy to put a tarp strap or wire to hold it.

That 880 Ollie will start better than most gas tractors in cold weather. No kidding, the oliver diesels start AMAZINGLY easy in winter. The hydraulic Power-Traction hitch is handy, and not an option on any other tractors you mentioned.

Perfect tractor for versatility, especially auger work.Throttle and pto are worked without climbing on.

If the color hurts your eyes, you could paint it Cockshutt red! I'd hang on to it.

Thanks guys !
bradk , this one doesn't start when it is below 25 degrees . It also has a wide front and isn't very handy to back wagons with .
I don't need hydraulic to run the auger . The pit auger feeding is electric .
I understand the 656 is a newer 560 but I wondered about being able to run it from the ground or weather the 656 would set to high .
Just seams like the tractors get taller every year lol .
