Does anyone have an idea where to start to troubleshoot a JD 3010 whose 540 rpm pto chatters and then suddenly stops turning? Chatter is not continuous and pto works again if you disengage and re-engage. 9 years ago I split tractor and replaced clutch and woodruff key that drives pto inside trans. No problems till recently. Thanks

sounds like either the clutch plate is giving up the ghost,or the throwout bearing or other bearing in the pto driveline could be the culprit too.
you prob end up splitting the thing again.

The 3010's have a known problem with the shift collar mechanism for the 540/100 RPM PTO not fully engaging, then jumping out of gear due to a ment or broken pin.

TOTALLY a different area then the PTO clutch/TO bearing.

i know about the pto shift collar on these tractors but did'nt think it would clatter like bobin said.that problem would sound like grinding gears.Buuttt it is possible too.

anyway Bobin, you got 2 choices to do the split.
between engine and clutch housing or between clutch housing and tranny, take your pick,it could be either one
