OT: Snapper Mower

I've a 48" snapper yard cruiser (4th season with it). Bought it mainly for the joystick control..love that aspect.

The problem is the cut it gives, really a ragged lookin sucker. The 36 " dixon I had did a much better job and of course when I went to buy the snapper the dealer told me it would do everything the dixon did. This turned out to be a buncha bull. Could run the dixon in water, just about anycondition, wet tall grass etc...always cut really smooth.

The snapper leaves a ragged swath just about where the right wheel runs. My neighbor has an industrial diesel (snapper) 72" and has the same problem, she added a .062" washer between the spindle and the collar, which offset that blade down. I tried that and it helped some. Think the main difference is how the grass cleans out. The dixon has a stamped deck, the snapper is a steel top plate welded to the verticle contoured edge plate, grass gets packed in the corners real easy.

Anyone found a reliable rule for good mower decks and clean cuts. Been looking at the country clipper. It has a stamped deck and the joystick.

thanks

Niether will be in the price range of the snapper but either the exmark or the new gas kubota with the pro deck will give exclent cuts.
Whats the problem with the snapper you have is ft wheel mashes the grass down then there is not
enough suction to pick it back up in that off corner of the deck. Several cures that a good snapper dealer should be able to do like add baffeling under that corner to improve suction.
Lot depends on what you are cutting (type of grass)

Must be a Snapper problem ? I just picked up an older Snapper push mower and I never had anything cut so bad ! It's like it has no suction ?

Thanks Jerry W., think I'll see if I can't attach a little 6" rake in back of that right front tire.

The deck has several square holes punched in it, probably to allow for air to get under the deck. The manual specifys keeping those cleaned out. Don't know if its the problem with the push mower or not.

Check and make sure the deck is level, side to side, then check and make sure it is 1/4" lower in the front than the back, make sure the deck is clean, we have had a terrible problem with grass collecting under decks this year. Most Snappers give a real good quality cut.

I've got a 48" 20-HP snapper with joy stick. It is several years and it was built by Country Clipper for Snapper. I don't know if they still build the ztr for snapper. Any way mine cuts perfectly.
