The original subject was Re: New Holland TN70A Clutch and PTO adjustment.

Split my TN70a at 3000 hrs to replace the clutch. Existing clutch assembly is the LUK 11 dual stage with the 3 paddle pto disc. Supplier I ordered the new kit from (Superior Tractor Parts in Dakota City Iowa), told me the kit he had for my tractor was an LUK kit, which is what I asked for. All of the bearing sizes were confirmed so the purchase was made. Yet the kit that arrived today does not have the LUK stamp on the face of the pressure plate, nor any LUK packaging. Research I've done tells me this kit is made by Hy-Capacity. It appears to be well-made, (for whatever value an eyeball assessment can provide). Hy-Capacity clutch kits are being sold by a good many others which gives the impression they apparently have a respectable reputation. This is why I'm checking in here to learn the opinions and experiences from Harry in Ky or others who have split many tractors and may have some knowledge as to the quality of the clutch components made by Hy-Capacity. I had preferred LUK but hopefully someone has some good things to say about Hy-Capacity parts. Thanks in advance for any input. -- Steve in Wi.

Hy Capacity was at one time one of the leading suppliers of rebuilt clutches and clutch kits. Their catalog was four inches thick. The world has changed a bit since then and now there are what seems like hundreds of online suppliers all competing for our dollars. They are just one more.

That said, if the clutch they sent isn't marked LUK, then it probably wasn't made by LUK. That doesn't mean it's any more or less quality a product. So much of what we buy today is listed as XXX style. That doesn't mean it's built by XXX, only that it looks, fits, (and supposedly works) like XXX. Just because this one doesn't have the LUK trademark in the casting shouldn't be a game changer.

What scares me more than brand is price. When eight suppliers are listing similar items, most are usually reasonably close on price. When one has a posted price that's half what the other's want, that's the one I stay away from.

Well not being the local Ford GURU , but had installed a couple in fords . Back before i retired i was a hy cap dealer for 25 years . Yes i worked on I H as i know them the best and i have in all my years of dealing with Hy cap i have never had and issue with what they pedal . I chose them because they Stand behind what they sell , not only as to the part BUT they would stand behind the labor as well. when your working on a customers tonka toy it's on his dime . If something goes south then it comes back and it is on your dime . I installed countless T/A's in I H tractors and never once did i have one come back and with a T/A install a new clutch , pressure plate and other items were replaced . So IF you want top quality from a after market then They are the one's you go to . What you received was was a REBUILT unit not a new , will it work as it should YUP . As long as you do the job correctly your good to go , you have and Issue then call them they will walk you thru. Top- notch people , top notch parts.

I am a Hy-Capacity dealer and an A and I Dealer and a few others. Never had a problem with any of their Clutches. Luk is fine too. Most are half price of OEM dealers.

Thanks to all for the peace-of-mind provided by your replies. I'm now feeling good about using either LUK or Hy-Capacity clutch kits.

My supplier has responded that the kit they mistakenly sent me was a Hy-Capacity unit, not the LUK I ordered. My final concern comes from the fact that unlike LUK units where their branding is stamped right on the casting as well as their corporate colors on the packaging, this unit does not have one single marking anywhere on the clutch assembly nor the boxing. If it were not for the packing slip, there would be no way to know this is a Hy-Capacity product.

For those of you who have worked with Hy-Capacity for years: Is this normal? (I'm still casting a concerned look now only because this unit was drop-shipped from a third-party supplier.)
